Hi Beautiful! This was one of my favorite videos to film ever. It was sooo hard to follow instructions that were written in the 18th century but I also learned so much about how to style hair in different ways that I didn't know about before. Overall such a fun challenge!

In Spanish we call these Gajos which were very popular in the 60s they're called barrel curls. Look up the books on eBay or the internet called Dell Purse Books 1960s hairstyling books these books are now antiques and collectors and were actually books with hair setting patterns.

When Brad mentions hair being cut shorter in the front like a mullet. It was called a headgehog style in the late 18th centry. The shorter hair was curled an then left longer in the back to be curled or put in a a bow. The short hair in front have it a TON of volume. Think Keira Knightley in the Duchess

I just started rewatching all of Brad Mondo's video during Corona and let me just say the hair he just did looks like Mom's from Futurama.

Looking at the final style, why did it require all the curling with the papers? There aren't any curls in the end style and it seems like a redundant step?

Congratulations for your concentration and perseverance =D! From Europe, a bit more used to the old writing there : the letter looking like an "f" is actually an "s" =) but it also makes me laugh to read them as "f"''s ^^

I think Brad did the back part different from what it said. It said to plait (braid) it into one. I think the "three or four crossings" means to make it very loose, so there or only three or four "lines" coming to the center on each side, and then roll up the braid.

So basically they prolly couldnt read and just misspelled most words and tht is why you were able to figure out some of the words😊. Just my guess 👌

Watching this realizing he was pronouncing all the f’s as an f lol In 18th century print the F is in place of an S lol love you bunches!

If you notice most of f's are in the words instead of an S . It makes a lot more sense loll

I’m fine if people use dry shampoo if they forget to wash their hair for like a day but, I think it looks really gross when they use it for more than like 2 days because it’s dried up oil, and no one else can see it and it bugs me so much.

If you're wondering why all the words were "misspelled", it's because F and S are the same letter in that text! It's this whole historic thing I don't remember why, but yeah.

lol you kept pronouncing those ‘s’ like f’s because that’s what they looked like back then but just slightly different than the f, for example you were saying firft but it’s actually “first” 🤣 and that’s why they got rid of that letter, for that reason lol

On futurerama they went back in time an the 18th century an they said that "F" were actually "S" an I usually dont listen to the tv but watching this makes me think that it's TRUE 🤣🤣

Hey, it was a little harder to read because the 's' looks like an 'f', it is written in ancient English, and that was their font. (Maybe I won't make a lot of sense since I am from Brazil, but I do study languages and these fonts - you read FIRFT, but it is FIRST)
Júlia Aires
Júlia Aires 9 วันที่ผ่านมา
It seems it uses a long 's', for when it is between vowels or between consonants, like 'FIRST' and 'NECESSARY', but it is not a rule for all the text, don't know why hehe.

The spelling is in part because it wasn’t until fairly recently that the spelling of words was standardized, so basically they spelled it however they wanted.

Love your channel Brad 😁 Learning a lot! 👍🏻 BTW, I also am a visual learner, reading doesn’t come easy (I have dyslexia ), I can’t sit still super long while getting my hair done, and my brain flow is just as funny and semi random as yours . Love It! I also have ADHD/ADD. It’s a super power that definitely helps with artistic and creative careers like Pro Hair Stylists. THANKS for sharing hair Knowledge and for being Your Amazing Self! ❤️

Ok so I think what happened with the spelling is the typewriter the writer used the letter s key was broken so they just used a letter f in place of the letter s! Edit: nope! I was complete wrong I have seen multiple letter S’s (S’s???🤔) so I’m guessing there were just semi illiterate 😬

18th century pamade is primarily animal fat (tallow and lard) to mimic as closely human hair oils, plus fragrance/medicinal oils like clove, lavender, jasmine, rose ect. to act as a lice repellent and to smell AMAZING hard pomade had beeswax. Wheat starch (the byproduct of flour making) was primarily used as powder and powders were often scented and could be colorful. Pamade + powder +daily combing and brushing was how they kept their hair and scalp clean. They would have used u pins, and a lot of hair pieces (like buckle rolls, cushions, and toupees) If you are interested in learning more in a digested form, checkout the American Duchess Guide to 18th Century Beauty
