Windows Mobile was awesome. It was just like little Windows. Eminently customizable and malleable. The genuises over at XDA Developers did incredible things with it. You downloaded and ran programs just like any normal Windows OS. My first smartphone was an HTC Touch Pro 2. It ran Windows Mobile. I loved it. It also had the best damn physical keyboard a phone probably ever had, but that's a different tale. It could do all sorts of things no Android or iPhone could do at the time. It also had a resistive screen like your PDA, and there are still advantages to resistive screens to this day over capacitive ones. Anyway, I wanted to stay with Windows for my next smartphone after the TP2. But no. Microsoft completely killed off Windows Mobile and introduced Windows Phone 7 which was a dumb and egregious attempt to copy the iOS model of locking everything down. Of course, it was a miserable failure. I went over to Android and got a Note 2 and haven't looked back. But I still miss Windows Mobile. It was so completely open. No rooting or jailbreaking or anything like that required. It was a robust, seasoned mobile OS when the iPhone was in diapers. It wasn't pretty like iOS, but if MS hadn't been as dumb as rocks, it could have maintained WM's already incredible functionality, put some makeup on it, and maybe been a real competitor to Android. Instead, MS did MS things.

10:49 Age of Empires Looks exactly like the PC Version (Landscape). Sim City was portrait and what was cool was the file format for saved games/cities is compatible with the PC/Mac versions (In Mac just export to PC format), though I've never done it. My first phone was HTC Touch Diamond because it could run all the apps I already had for iPAQ. When I heard there was PDA phones back then I knew I had to have one. Sucks Windows Phone wasn't compatible with Pocket PC/Windows Mobile and died off, but long live Android!!!

Pocket PC's are awesome devices. Back in 2006-07, My mom had a bar code scanner from her work that ran the same windows mobile operating system and it actually used 2G data. I was actually able to get online and listen to streaming radio with it, which was quite amazing at the time. It was my first experience with a mobile internet device.

i remember it being like 2005 and i was 15. some lucky kid on my bus had some sort of Ipaq or Palm Pilot and i was in awe! my first question was "can you get on AIM anywhere you go?!?!" (now i assume he meant anywhere there was wifi) its was a rare and awesome thing to see someone with one of these. now everyone and their grandma has the modern version of these devices!(the smartphone)

That awful fucking thing is literally a year older than the original iPhone, so it’s not hard to see why Apple swooped in to destroy that market. Samsung wouldn’t be shit today if they hadn’t successfully copied Apple’s designs, and Google hadn’t ripped off Oracle to build the Android OS Thad copies Apple’s software functionality. RIP Steve Jobs, he saved us from this nonsense, and his contribution to society won’t be forgotten.

Believe or not, most not supported media is just because it is software rendered. Back then hardware rendering was like ONE specific codec at a specific bitrate and resolution. And those softwares just do software rendering (pretty well actually for a 500 like mhz arm cpu) at the cost of draining your battery really fast!

I used to have a Palm m100 pda I used in the very beginning of the 2000s. Plain black LED screen. Complimented my Nokia brick phone nicely. I couldnt get the sync cable to work with the laptop we had at the time but it had IR, so I used to sync it that way. I actually had a pretty cool space trader game on it that I played at school quite a bit.

My first "smart" phone had Windows Mobile 6.1, got it in early 2009, shat all over my friends iPhone 3G but the only games were Windows cack like Solitaire and Mahjong and I could only really install Java games haha.. decent though 480*800 resolution which was great at the time, and Microsoft office for doing my college work on the bus. HTC Touch HD, absolute beast. Came with an HTC branded suede sock to put it in for the businessman with style.

My last archaic phone after the N-Gage QD & b4 the iPhone craze leading to my now loved note 9 was an HTC TyTn II (Kaiser) with the best feeling sliding keyboard i ever experienced at the time running Windows Mobile, I loved that thing so much through my uni years i used to flash ROMS on a weekly basis enjoying everything the XDA Developers community had to offer to this day on android. had like 70 games on that thing which were abundant by then. Good times
